The Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia (ISM) is the professional institution representing the surveying profession in Malaysia and consists of four main divisions, namely :
- Property Consultancy Valuation Surveying Division
- Land Surveying Division
- Quantity Surveying Division
- Building Surveying Division
a) Property Consultancy Valuation Surveying Division
A Property Consultant is an expert on matters relating to valuation, estate agency, property management, property development services and property investments consultancy.
b) Land Surveying Division
The work of the land surveyor is varied and his or her practice may fall under one or more of the various categories, such as cadastral surveying or surveying for title, engineering surveying, topographical surveying, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying and hydrographic surveying. Except for geodetic surveying and photogrammetry, the other categories in land surveying involve essentially large-scale surveys.
c) Quantity Surveying Division
A Quantity Surveyor is a construction professional, he or she is qualified and adequately trained to advise on all aspects of construction costs, financial and contractual administration. He or she is an expert on the cost and management of construction projects, whether building, civil or heavy engineering.
d) Building Surveying Division
A Building Surveyor offers specialist services on matters relating to building and property development such as project and construction management, maintenance and repair of building, refurbishment and restoration of old properties, building law and regulation, demolition works and property development.
