MATRADE AND NCCIM INITIATE EFFORTS TO CREATE BETTER AWARENESS ON DOING BUSINESS WITH UKRAINE FOR
MALAYSIAN COMPANIES

THURSDAY, AUGUST 4, 2016, KUALA LUMPUR: The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (NCCIM) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) joined forces today to organise a business seminar to improve the awareness on both Ukraine and Malaysia among players from both nations.

The seminar is held in conjunction with the visit of Ukrainian President His Excellence Petro Poroshenko and is officiated by Minister (II) of International Trade and Industry YB Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan. Taking place at Menara MATRADE, the seminar featured a panel session titled ‘Doing Business in Ukraine : Reforms, Challenges and Business Opportunities’ which panellists include Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Taras Kutoviy; First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Yulia Kovaliv; Member of the Board of Developmen and Investment and Chairman of Ukraine-ASEAN Business Partnership Association, Ihor Lytvyn; Business Development Director of Farmak JSC, Oleg Syarkevych and General Manager of Pradotec Corporation Sdn Bhd, Brian Lew.

Complementing the business seminar is a luncheon graced by President Poronshenko himself and joining him is Vice President of NCCIM Datuk Wira Jalilah Baba. The visit also marks the first visit by any of Ukrainian’s head of state officials to Malaysia.

The objective of the event is to highlight possible strategic collaborations and joint ventures between Malaysian and Ukrainian players in strengthening economic ties between the two countries. In 2015, Malaysia exported RM414.6 million worth of palm oil to Ukraine, followed by exports of processed food (RM55.5 million) and chemical products (RM43.9 million). Malaysia’s two biggest imports from Ukraine were wheat and sunflower oil, with total imports worth RM177.4 million and RM98.1 million in 2015, respectively.

MATRADE hopes the seminar will be a catalyst for more engagements by Malaysian companies to improve their market share in Ukraine. This will ultimately help to boost bilateral trade between Malaysia and Ukraine. Local companies keen to explore the Ukrainian market are urged to contact MATRADE’s trade office in Warsaw, Poland (which covers the Ukrainian market) via email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
