MALAYSIA TO ENHANCE TRADE WITH CAMBODIA

MONDAY, AUGUST 8, 2016, KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia External Trade Development
Corporation (MATRADE) is organising an Export Acceleration Mission (EAM) to Cambodia
on 9 August 2016. The EAM involves 35 business representatives from 20 Malaysian
companies .

One of the key highlights of the EAM is the Malaysia – Cambodia Business Seminar which
will be participated by the Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Dato’ Sri
Mustapa Mohamed and his counterpart in Cambodia, H.E Pan Sorasak, Minister of
Commerce Cambodia.

The Malaysian companies participating in the Mission are from diverse industrial and
services sectors such as food and beverages, construction, financial services, chemical
and electrical and electronic products, and halal related products. The EAM is part of the
Government’s efforts to enhance trade and investment ties with ASEAN Member States.

The seminar will be an important avenue for businesses from both countries to exchange
views on the current business climate and identify key areas to strengthen cooperation
between the two nations. It will be followed by a Business Matching Session arranged by
MATRADE for Malaysian and Cambodian businesses.

During the visit, Minister Mustapa will also be having bilateral meetings with several
Cambodian cabinet members. “Malaysia and Cambodia have already had close
relationship. We need to continue to build upon this strong foundation and maintain the
momentum. Our current economic partnership must be expanded further to cover new key
areas such as the Halal industry, utilities, infrastructure and road development, renewable
energy, as well as high-value services”, said Dato’ Sri Mustapa.

MATRADE will continue to organise similar missions including various marketing missions
to ASEAN Member States to increase Malaysia’s exports of goods and services.
