MONDAY: 16 APRIL 2018: The Malaysia Aerospace Industry Association (MAIA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Aerospace Industries Association of The Philippines (AiAP), focussing on aerospace industry development at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2018, at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur, on 16 April 2018.

MAIA was represented by its President, Mr. Naguib Mohd Nor while AiAP was represented by its Chairman, Mr. John T. Lee. Also present were Ms. Yuslinawati Mohd Yusof, Director of Transport and Logistics Section, MATRADE.

Both Associations will collaborate to develop aerospace capabilities and business opportunities between Malaysia and Philippines. The MOU will focus on human capital development, research & technology as well as exchange of information on business environment, and international trade issues.

The signing of the MoU is part of MAIA effort to secure footprint in the regional OEM supply chain growth. The various OEM internationalisation strategies have caused supply chains to pivot towards the high growth regions such as Asia Pacific.

MAIA aims to position Malaysia as a capable and competitive manufacturing, MRO and services base able to supplement and integrate with the Philippines and regional aerospace sectors.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), which is Malaysia’s national trade promotion agency, was instrumental in facilitating the collaboration between MAIA and AiAP. MAIA and AiAP initially engaged during MATRADE’s delegation to Seattle AeroMart, March 2018.

The MoU signing is part of MATRADE’s continuous effort to match-make MAIA with aerospace associations from other part of the world to further grow the sector.
