The Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed announced that total trade in January 2010 was valued at RM91.96 billion, 34.4% higher than that in January 2009. Total exports rose 37.0% to RM52.45 billion, while imports increased by 31.0% to RM39.52 billion.
Compared with December 2009, total trade in January 2010 was lower by 5.4%. Total exports decreased by 4.1% while imports declined by 7.2%. As a result, a trade surplus of RM12.93 billion was recorded in January 2010, making it the 147th consecutive month of trade surplus since November 1997.
