Trade Performance : April 2011 and January - April 2011

The Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed announced that total exports in April 2011 registered a double-digit growth of 11.1% year-on-year to RM57.80 billion while imports grew by 9.4% to RM46.79 billion.

Total trade in April 2011 expanded by 10.3% to RM104.58 billion compared with April 2010. Trade surplus was valued at RM11.01 billion, making it the 162nd consecutive month of trade surplus since November 1997.

Compared with March 2011, exports in April 2011 decreased by 6.6% while imports was lower by 7.4% and total trade declined by 7.0%.

Total trade during the period of January to April 2011 increased by 8.6% to RM405.54 billion, compared with the corresponding period in 2010. This was contributed by the exports value of RM224.16 billion and imports of RM181.38 billion. Exports registered an increase of 6.4% while imports expanded by 11.6% compared with January to April 2010, resulting in a trade surplus of RM42.77 billion.

EXPORTS IN APRIL 2011

The increase in exports in April 2011 of RM5.78 billion from a year ago was largely contributed by higher exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG), palm oil, refined petroleum products, crude rubber, optical and scientific equipment as well as  chemicals and chemical products.
