Trade Performance : July 2011 and January - July 2011

The Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed announced that Malaysia’s exports in July 2011 increased by 7.1% to reach a value of RM59.24 billion compared with July 2010. Imports increased by 2.9% to RM49.79 billion. A total trade of RM109.04 billion was recorded, 5.1% higher from a year ago with a trade surplus of RM9.45 billion, making it the 165th consecutive month of trade surplus since November 1997.

On a month-on-month basis, exports in July 2011 increased by 2.4%. Imports decreased by 0.4% and total trade increased by 1.1%.

Total trade during the period of January to July 2011 increased by 7.7% to RM724.09 billion, compared with the corresponding period in 2010. This was contributed by exports of RM396.35 billion and imports of RM327.75 billion. Exports registered an increase of 6.9% while imports expanded by 8.7% compared with January to July 2010, resulting in a trade surplus of RM68.60 billion.
