EXPORTS REGISTERED 9% GROWTH
The Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed announced that Malaysia's total trade for the first eleven months of the year valued at RM1.156 trillion, increased by 8.7% from the corresponding period in 2010. Exports rose by 9% to RM633.81 billion while imports expanded by 8.4% to RM521.81 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of RM112 billion, during the same period.
Malaysia's exports in November 2011 was valued at RM56.86 billion, an increase of 8% compared with a year ago. Imports was higher by 8.4% to RM47.38 billion while total trade expanded by 8.2% from November 2010 to RM104.24 billion. Higher prices and raised demand drove exports in November 2011 upwards, particularly for liquefied natural gas (LNG), refined and crude petroleum as well as palm oil. Manufactured exports such as machinery, appliances and parts, chemicals, manufactures of metal as well as rubber products also increased.
On a month-on-month basis, exports, imports and total trade in November 2011 were lower by 10.2%, 5.3% and 8.1%, respectively.
