MM Vitaoils has penetrated 80 countries world-wide with its edible oil products. Their main business is producing and exporting palm oil-based products such as cooking oil, ghee, shortening and margarine. MM Vitaoils currently produces and exports 24 brands of edible oil products, to countries such as South Korea, China, India, Europe, USA, Uzbekistan, Africa and Japan, securing niche markets. The export market constitutes over 98% of total revenue.
In an effort to expand to new markets overseas, MM Vitaoils has recently ventured into the Latin American market, one of the world’s largest emerging markets, by participating in the MATRADE organized Specialized Marketing Mission on Food and Beverages to Santiago, Chile and Sao Paulo, Brazil in June 2010. According to the company’s Assistant Trading Manager, Mr. Mohamad Munir Jawead, who represented MM Vitaoils in the event, the participation contributed to actual sales of USD 25,000 and potential sales worth USD 1 million. The product in particular demand in Latin America is its in-house brand, Qualitaste Shortening.
Here are some comments made by Mr. Munir regarding the mission:
“Brazil with a population of around 200 million is regarded as the most attractive market in the South American region due to its high consumption of edible oils & fats products as well as its large population. Although soybean oil is still holding the biggest market share, palm oil products has been increasingly accepted in the market due to its advantage of being non- hydrogenated oil which makes it free from Trans Fatty Acids. The Brazilians are realizing the benefits of palm oil for frying and baking. As the United States is one of Brazil's largest export market, many Brazilian confectionary companies and biscuit manufacturers are also shifting from using hydrogenated oil to non-hydrogenated oil to comply with US legislation requirement for food products, thus creating demand for palm oil based products. Apart from penetrating the Brazilian market, the mission also enabled the company to identify new importers in the Chilean market. The Specialized Marketing Mission to Chile & Brazil in June 2010, was very useful to the company as the MATRADE offices in Chile and Brazil has pre-arranged business meetings with reliable prospective buyers in these markets."
