Eligibility Profile
Profiles of companies eligible to be considered for the WEDP are:
- Women-owned companies with majority or at least 51% of equity of the companies is owned by women. The women shareholding in the companies could be owned by either individual or group of women shareholders.
- Chief Executive Officers or Managing Directors of companies are women. As the WEDP gives emphasis on developing the person or the entrepreneur, the requirement for a woman CEO or MD is as important as the majority women shareholding.
- Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) which is classified based on the national SME definition.
- Companies which have been in operation for a minimum of three years and had a certain level of market dominance locally.
- Companies with business premises or manufacturing facilities, located in certain states or regions. Women-owned companies based in Sabah and Sarawak could be given priority to be considered in the WEDP, on the basis of diversifying the regional socio-economic growth. vi.Companies which are involved in technology-driven, high value-added and knowledge-based industries. These types of industries include high-precision parts manufacturing, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, animation and advance surveillance systems, which are considered non-traditional to women; thus, are given preference.
