How
can MATRADE assist in finding buyers?
The first thing the exporter has to do in
conducting any export business is to find importers
who will buy your goods. There are many ways to
find overseas buyers. MATRADE can assist the exporter
in the following ways.
- Get in touch with the Export Facilitation
& Services Promotion Division of MATRADE
whose functions include introducing foreign
buyers to Malaysian exporters. MATRADE has a
data base of foreign importers which includes
the most updated information gathered by Trade
Commissioners posted overseas.
- Visit MATRADE Business Library which is a
specialised international trade library where
references of company directories, yellow pages
and trade journals from all over the world are
available. Sending offer letters on your products
to the companies listed in such directories
and journals is one way to approach buyers.
- Visit foreign markets, as a member of trade
missions, and/or as an exhibitor in the trade
fairs and exhibitions held overseas organized
by MATRADE for Malaysian companies. It is beneficial
for those planning to embark on business travels
abroad to participate in such overseas events.
What are the other sources
of information?
- Get information from the commercial section
of foreign embassies or trade promotion organizations
stationed in Malaysia. They may have inquiries
for import received from interested groups in
their own countries (some embassies which only
promote export rather than import will not have
such services).
- Check the inquiry letters sent by foreign
buyers to the local Chamber of Commerce offices.
- Correspond letters directly with the Chamber
of Commerce Overseas to establish a list of
importers for the concerned products.
- Entrust overseas market research to private
consulting, research firms to identify potential
importers.
- Advertise products through the media in overseas
markets.
