Can
the exporter cut down paper work?
PKCS (the Port Klang Community System) has an EDI
(Electronic Data Interchange)- based community system,
and is used for the tracking of consignment status.
An EDI mailbox links Customs, international carriers,
terminal operators and freight forwarders. The system
transmits shipping documents from a port to the
Customs office. It replaces the manual submission
of documents via a computer that is interconnected
with all the relevant parties. The system performs
jobs related to the export customs clearance formalities,
e.g. export declaration and permit application.
It is one of the many important nodes connected
to Dagang - Net, the National EDI Clearing Centre.
Dagang-Net is the brain and nerve centre of the
entire Electronic Data Interchange Network for Malaysia
where millions of messages pass through day and
night, non-stop continually. Dagang-Net is the channel
through which vital national trade statistics, electronic
fund transfer(EFT), and corporate transactions pass
through.
How can EDI help the
textile exporter?
MITI-EDI programme is also an Electronic Data
Interchange based community system using Dagang-Net.
This programme enables textile exporters to transmit
export permit and visa applications to MITI electronically.
The system links MITI, customs and textile exporters.
It enables the submission of documents electronically
as opposed to manually.
The system improves response time in issuing export
permit and visas, provide textile exporters with
a facility for accurate and timely submissions
in applying for export permits and visas, enables
easy access to information databases for relevant
parties and standardise trade documents.
The programme is one of the many services which
is currently available to subscribers of Dagang-Net.
Through a single connection to Dagang-Net, MITI-EDI
Programme users are linked to one another, including
MITI and the customs Department. The exporter
