has developed one of the region's finest communications
and transportation networks offering world-class
facilities and services as part of an efficient
trading system. The country has leveraged on the
rapid development within the telecommunications
industry, to provide high quality, reliable and
competitive communications services. It is continuously
upgrading its infrastructure to meet the demand
for more sophisticated services.
Currently
five facilities-based service providers offer
a full range of local, domestic and international
voice, message and data services. According to
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission,
there are 7 registered Internet Service Providers
(ISPs), giving businesses a wide range of competitive
rates.
The
mobile telephone industry is well established,
offering value added services that include short
message service (SMS), information services using
Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). General Packet
Radio Services (GPRS).
Malaysia
is also looking into the launch of the 3G (3rd
Generation Mobile) services that will enable voice,
images, data and video signals to be transmitted
at speeds of up to 2 megabits per second.
Fixed line business users in
major urban centres can opt for Internet access
through ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Lines)
technology.
