Educational Services
Malaysia has a tradition of excellence in higher education,
and places great emphasis on human resource training.
In order to cater to both local and foreign demand,
more than 600 private education institutions ranging
from secondary schools to universities and branch campuses
of foreign universities have been set up. The quality
of education is stringently monitored in Malaysia. Courses
conducted at private institutions of higher learning
meet strict standards set by the National Accreditation
Board (NAB). Many private institutions of higher learning
have also set up a special department to look after
the welfare of international students. Apart from high
educational quality, Malaysia has a number of advantages
that make the country a logical choice for thousands
of foreign students. These include:
- a sunny climate
- diverse cultures and communities
- a reasonable cost of living
- competitive educational costs
- safety
- extensive use of English as a medium of communication
and
- an excellent quality of life.
In 2003, about 39,577 foreign students from nearly
100 countries including Indonesia, China, India, the
West Asia and Africa opted to study in Malaysia. Students
can earn diplomas and degrees in fields as diverse as
liberal arts, law, computing, business administration,
engineering, communications and multimedia. Malaysian
education is also highly competitive in terms of cost,
since students can undergo twinning programmes with
foreign universities from the UK, the USA and Australia.

Healthcare Services
Malaysia has an excellent healthcare system offering
easy access to medical treatment at public and private
clinics and hospitals. Private hospitals offer a wide
range of healthcare services and facilities ranging
from medical screening to state-of-the art services
at a reasonable cost compared to services of similar
standard in other countries. Quality of care is assured
since medical professionals are highly trained and qualified
in many specialised fields of medicine.
Malaysian healthcare tourism is growing, banking on
the countrys excellent health facilities and reasonable
prices to attract tourists. Tourists visiting Malaysia
could opt for medical screening and other elective medical
treatment as part of the tour programme. Malaysia also
has ample expertise in hospital administration and nurses
training. Malaysian nurses especially are in demand
in West Asian healthcare institutions due to their professionalism,
skills and excellent training.
Patients can enjoy spacious, comfortable accommodation
and premium care at the 49 private medical centres in
Malaysia. Tour operators are now working on packaging
these elective health services and leisurely or recuperative
hospital stays for visitors to Malaysia.
Construction, Architecture
and Engineering Services
Several Malaysian construction companies have been chosen
to undertake projects in many developing countries in
Asia and Africa. Roads and highways, housing projects,
hotels, dams, reservoirs, drainage systems, factories,
and power generation plants are some of the diverse
structures built by Malaysian companies in countries
such as India, China, Vietnam, Chile, Argentina, Myanmar,
Cambodia, the Philippines, Sudan and Namibia. Malaysian
engineers have developed extensive expertise in sectors
such as oil and gas, construction and telecommunications
and specifically in areas such as planning, feasibility
studies, cost benefit analysis, surveys, design and
project management. Consulting engineers have worked
on a broad spectrum of projects abroad, such as roads,
highways, ports, harbour works, airports, water treatment
works, wastewater treatment and sewage projects.
Malaysias architectural talent has found its
way into several foreign countries. Local architects
have designed resort hotels, condominiums, office buildings,
factories and residential developments in countries
such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Namibia, South Africa
and Australia.
Printing and Publishing Services
Competitive prices offered by local printers and publishers,
as well as the high quality of products and services,
have attracted buyers from Singapore, the UK, Thailand,
Hong Kong, South Africa, Brunei, Mauritius, Vietnam
and Russia. The industry is constantly working to improve
turnaround time, and many have invested in state-of-the-art
technology to provide in-house finishing and bindery
services. Many printers and publishers also stay abreast
of new developments in the printing and publishing technology
and this has greatly increased efficiency and productivity,
as well as export competitiveness.
Malaysian authorities are committed to upholding intellectual
property and copyright laws, and this assurance has
enhanced the countrys standing as a reputable
centre for printing and publishing. Last but not least,
the industry is poised to export technology and know-how
in specialised areas such as print management. Malaysian
publishers and printers are also banking on their skills
and expertise in order to develop smart partnerships
and investment ventures abroad.
