Sustaining Export Development MATRADE Core Purpose // 117 MATRADE Bangkok was involved in organising bilateral meetings between business associations and local industry players in conjunction with the official working visit of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia in 2019. MATRADE Bangkok continues to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a global halal hub by promoting halal food products and JAKIM’s halal certification in all trade activities. Malaysian products and services were also promoted during the ASEAN summit in November 2019. MATRADE Bangkok collaborated with the Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC), Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and the Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand in carrying out promotion activities. MATRADE Bangkok together with KPDNHEP promoted the franchise sector and with MDEC for the digital industry, in particular online services. Promotion programmes were aimed to increase cross-border trade which constitutes 62% of the bilateral trade between the two countries. MATRADE Ho Chi Minh City was directly involved with the official working visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Hanoi, Viet Nam and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. During the visit, an MoU was successfully realised relating to the agreement on double tax deductions between Malaysia and Cambodia that benefits the business community of both countries. Among the programmes arranged were a dialogue session with 54 Malaysian companies operating in Viet Nam and Cambodia as well as the visit of the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities of Malaysia to Ho Chi Minh City to promote palm oil in Vietnam. MATRADE Yangon in collaboration with the Malaysian Embassy and the Malaysia-Myanmar Business Council (MMBC) organised the Malaysia-Myanmar Connect 2019 (MMC) programme in August 2019. The event involved seminar activities, mini exhibitions and visits to industry sites. A total of 228 business meetings were organised for 56 Malaysian companies to promote the manufacturing, construction, ICT, food & beverage and lifestyle sectors. MATRADE Yangon collaborated with TEKUN Nasional which participated in the MMC event to arrange negotiations with two business associations where six MoUs were signed. MATRADE Yangon implemented a programme with Malaysia Wood Moulding and Joinery Council (MWMJC) in October 2019 which was participated by 13 companies. Visits and meetings were arranged with selected wood associations namely, Myanmar Furniture Industries Association, Myanmar Timber Merchants Association, Wartayar Wood-based Industrial Zone, Yangon and Malaysia-Myanmar Business Council (MMBC).
