Annual Report 2019

12 // MATRADE Annual Report 2019 ECONOMIC REVIEW This year witnessed growing competition within the region and challenging geopolitical environment, specifically the trade conflict between the United States and China. The continous efforts and cooperation between MATRADE, government agencies and the private sector during this period enabled the country to record an encouraging trade performance. As the organisation mandated to promote export and enhance trade, I see MATRADE consistently driving Malaysia as one of the leading exporting countries within the Asian region. This achievement has contributed to the national economy and further supported the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV 2030) announced by the Prime Minister. MATRADE assumes an important role in ensuring Malaysia remain a trading nation as laid out in its mission and vision. Promotional programmes organised by MATRADE including participation in international trade fairs (ITF) and export acceleration missions (EAM) have enhanced the nation’s exports. With facilities and services from MATRADE’s 46 offices abroad, business meetings between Malaysian exporters and importers are successfully arranged. CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
