Sustaining Export Development MATRADE Core Purpose // 121 MATRADE Tokyo, together with MPOB discussed with Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ENECHO), Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to gain recognition for Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil Certification as one of the qualifications for Japan Biofuel Power Generation. With support given to Malaysian companies in the 3rd International Biomass Expo, an MoU was signed with Japanese importers to export empty fruit bunches to Japan. To strengthen Malaysia’s position as a halal hub, MATRADE Tokyo worked on a Halal Food & Beverage initiative for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics 2020 to be considered as a joint- venture project between Malaysia and Japan. MATRADE Seoul arranged a business meeting for Halal Development Corporation (HDC) with South Korean importers during the Seoul Food 2019 exhibition for halal food and pharmaceutical products. MATRADE Seoul also assisted JAKIM in signing a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Korea Food Research Institute (KFRI) in being recognised as the first halal laboratory in Korea. Various promotional activities and collaborations have been conducted jointly with Korea Institute of Halal Industry (KIHI) and Bluebell Korea Ltd during the Pertubuhan Usahawan Kosmetik Utara (PRUMERA) business mission which also included discussions and sharing sessions. CENTRAL ASIA MATRADE Almaty, together with SME International Trade Association (SMITA) and Kazakhstan Embassy in Malaysia organised a trade mission to Almaty. During the mission, SMITA signed an MoU with Kazakhstan National Chamber of Commerce (ATAMAKEN) to forge collaborarion between business communities from the two countries. Business visits and meetings between the SMITA delegation and local business community were also organised. This programme helped strengthen the image of Malaysia among business communities in Kazakhstan and establish MATRADE’s relevance as a key agency in assisting importers source products and services from Malaysia. WEST ASIA MATRADE Dubai assisted Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) conduct a facility management study in UAE to research and establish cooperation for potential partnerships in future projects. Together with The Electrical and Electronic Association Malaysia (TEEAM), MATRADE Dubai organised meetings in Malaysia between Dubai Electric and Water Authority (DEWA) and 40 Malaysian companies on opportunities to penetrate the UAE market.
