Sustaining Export Development MATRADE Core Purpose // 123 SOUTH ASIA MATRADE Mumbai assisted in GlobOil Mumbai 2019, a programme led by the Minister which was organised by MPI to enhance the image of the Malaysian palm oil industry. During this programme, MATRADE Mumbai arranged business meetings between Malaysian palm oil companies and Indian importers. MATRADE Mumbai cooperated with PHD Chambers of Commerce & Industry in hosting the India-ASEAN Business Summit 2019. The programme was attended by over 500 participants which involved ASEAN embassies and consulates. During the event, MATRADE Mumbai briefed participants of collaboration opportunities in the construction services and building materials sectors. MATRADE Chennai , in collaboration with MIDA (Mumbai), Tourism Malaysia (Chennai), CITIBANK Chennai and the South Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) organised the Malaysia Trade & Investment Confederation Summit. This seminar aimed to promote Malaysia as a strategic trading partner to importers, distributors and local companies. MATRADE Chennai further collaborated with Halal Development Corporation (HDC) in organising a seminar entitled; India’s Halal - Insights on the world’s Second largest Halal market and emergence of India as the Next Global Halal eMarketplace. Held for the first time in Chennai, the seminar focused on halal products and services, including cosmetics, personal care, food ingredients, pharmaceuticals, modest fashion and food & beverage. AFRICA MATRADE Lagos assisted MPOC and the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC) by channeling intelligence reports on the West African market and information on importers of palm oil and rubber related products. MATRADE Lagos was also involved in advising, assisting and monitoring the Nigeria-Malaysia Business Council as well as in connecting Malaysian agencies, organisations, companies and individuals to the council. The Nigeria-Malaysia Business Council also helps MATRADE Lagos to further expand networks and business opportunities in Nigeria. MATRADE Lagos also advised Persatuan Pengilang dan Industri Perkhidmatan Bumiputra Malaysia (PPIPBM) in their preparation towards trade missions to Lagos, Nigeria. MATRADE Johannesburg worked with Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) to promote the halal sector in South Africa in conjunction with the Africa Halal Week 2019 exhibition in Cape Town. MATRADE Johannesburg also collaborated with Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN), Durban to organise a seminar in Durban, South Africa and conduct halal market study in Malaysia. Both programmes successfully assisted Malaysian companies identify and leverage on business opportunities in the restaurant, food & beverage, franchise, fashion, healthcare sectors and strengthen branding of Malaysian products and services in South Africa. MATRADE Johannesburg assisted MREPC in undertaking a product market study mission to explore the South African rubber products and components industry.
