Sustaining Export Development MATRADE Core Purpose // 129 MATRADE Miami held seminars to explore export opportunities in the Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and at the Florida International Trade and Cultural Expo (FITCE) in Fort Lauderdale. This seminar provided opportunities to highlight capabilities and potential of Malaysian companies in related fields. In addition to attending invitations for activities organised by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) and the World Strategic Forum, MATRADE Miami continued the promotional efforts by conducting individual discussions with potential importers. As a result of the outreach programmes and discussions in 2019, MATRADE Miami successfully enticed four importers from the US, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados to participate in business meeting sessions in Malaysia. MATRADE Miami further collaborated with Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board, Malaysia Digital Economic Corporation (MDEC) and Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC) in promotion activities conducted in Florida, USA. In 2019, the focus was to increase trade activity with the US particularly for E&E, rubber and wood products which collectively contributed to 65.6% of Malaysia’s total exports to the US. Among key sectors that were also explored were aerospace, processed food & beverage, multimedia, creative content and lifestyle. MATRADE Los Angeles coordinated with Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) in promoting Malaysian timber exports through meetings with major importers in Los Angeles. MATRADE Los Angeles also assisted in the Malaysian Pavilion at Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) organised by MREPC. MATRADE Los Angeles coordinated buyer participation in INSP in conjunction with ITFs in Malaysia notably, EFE, MIHAS, IGEM, Oil & Gas Asia (OGA) and Malaysian Wood Expo (MWE).
