Annual Report 2019

Sustaining Export Development MATRADE Organisation // 13 INNOVATION OF THE HALAL INDUSTRY Malaysia is known globally as a renowned producer of halal products and services. Halal certification issued by Malaysia is accepted by many Islamic councils overseas. As a result, Malaysia has received high demand for halal products and services. The responses from MIHAS organised by MATRADE also attest to this. I have been informed, our neighbouring countries; Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia are also striving to become global halal hubs. It is important Malaysia exports high quality, innovative products and complies with international standards to remain relevant in the global halal industry. I urge all exporters in the halal industry to heighten their efforts and be proactive to remain competitive in this industry. MATRADE TRANSFORMATION We have outlined a strategy to ensure MATRADE rises to a higher level in its delivery to exporters and stakeholders. This transformation is pivotal to ensure MATRADE is in line with international standards, current trends, is dynamic and capable of providing professional services. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been widely used in MATRADE to facilitate information delivery and knowledge sharing especially in this era of digitilisation. Staff training programmes will be enhanced to meet specific needs such as project management and big data analysis to develop new expertise. HOPE FOR 2020 I express my appreciation to the government for entrusting me with my second appointment as MATRADE Chairman this year. I am committed to bring positive changes in the future. I wish to congratulate Malaysian exporters who have responded to the government’s call to expand and taking bold actions in exploring new markets besides traditional ones. It is hoped that exporters take on a positive and proactive stance in engaging the challenges of the future. Lately, the COVID-19 pandemic which began in China has posed a challenge for Malaysian exporters, as China is our main trading partner. We must continue to remain positive and look upon this crisis as an opportunity and not an obstacle within the global trade landscape. In conclusion, I would also like to express my highest gratitude to the Board Members who have provided invaluable support. This goes also to the valued people at MATRADE for their efforts and dedication throughout 2019. It is hoped that this cooperation and excellence in service will continue. With that, I thank you. TAN SRI DR. HALIM MOHAMMAD Chairman MATRADE CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE To realise this transformation, MATRADE will continue to improve human capital expertise as core influencer in its transformation management strategy.
