Sustaining Export Development Trade Performance Report // 31 Due to higher exports of Imports from China 0.1 % RM 175.67 billion In 2019, trade with China increased by 0.6% to RM316.60 billion, constituting 17.2% of Malaysia’s total trade. China continued to be Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 11 consecutive years. In term of exports, China surpassed Singapore as the largest export market after being the second largest export market since 2012. Exports to China constituted 14.2% of Malaysia’s total exports. Exports to China increased by 1.3% to RM140.93 billion underpinned by higher exports of iron and steel products, LNG as well as optical and scientific equipment. China remained as Malaysia’s largest import source, accounting for 20.7% share of total imports in 2019. Imports from China increased by 0.1% to RM175.67 billion, aided by higher imports of petroleum products, transport equipment and manufactures of plastics. Main imports were E&E products, machinery, equipment and parts as well as chemicals and chemical products.
