India, Bangladesh and Pakistan were Malaysia’s major trading partners in South Asia, accounting for 94.1% of total trade to the region. Exports to South Asia rose 6.1% to RM57.92 billion in 2019, constituting 5.8% of Malaysia’s total exports. Major export products to the region were palm oil and palm oil-based agriculture products, valued at RM12.47 billion or 21.5% of Malaysia’s total exports to South Asia, petroleum products (15.8%) and crude petroleum (11.4%). Imports from South Asia declined by 6.9% to RM26.61 billion. Main imports were petroleum products, manufactures of metal as well as chemicals and chemical products. SOUTH ASIA India remained as major trading partner in the region and accounted for 74.4% share of Malaysia’s total trade. India was also the largest export market in South Asia with a share of 66.6%. Exports to India increased by 6.2% to RM38.59 billion in 2019. Major export products to India were palm oil and palm oil- based agriculture products, valued at RM9.16 billion, contributing 23.7% to Malaysia’s exports to India, followed by crude petroleum (17.1% share) and manufactures of metal (12.1%). Imports from India decreased by 8.3% to RM24.28 billion. Main imports were petroleum products, manufactures of metal as well as chemicals and chemical products. In 2019, trade with Central Asia recorded a decrease of 9.7% to RM0.67 billion compared to RM0.74 billion in 2018. Exports to Central Asia contracted by 6.9% to RM0.63 billion, whereas imports from Central Asia dropped by 39.5% to RM0.04 billion. Malaysia’s major trading partner in Central Asia was Uzbekistan which recorded a value of RM0.34 billion or 51.6% share, followed by Kazakhstan (RM0.28 billion or 42.5%) and Turkmenistan (RM0.03 billion or 4.3%). Uzbekistan was the largest export market for Central Asian market, accounting for 50.9% share of total CENTRAL ASIA exports to Central Asia. Exports to Uzbekistan increased by 38.3% to RM0.32 billion. Major export products to Uzbekistan were palm oil and palm oil-based agriculture products, palm oil-based manufactured products as well as E&E products. Exports of palm oil and palm oil-based agriculture products recorded an increase of 54.1% to RM0.18 billion and represented 55.8% share of Malaysia’s total exports to Uzbekistan. Imports from Uzbekistan increased by 83.9% to RM24.7 million. Main imports were chemicals and chemical products, optical and scientific equipment as well as processed food.
