Annual Report 2019
Sustaining Export Development MATRADE Core Purpose // 97 Malaysia is a country recognised for its strategic location, stable economic growth, regional relations and world-class transportation infrastructure. This advantage is supported by the efficiency of the logistics industry which is crucial to spur trade activities, facilitate business and drive economic growth. In 2015, the government launched the Logistics and Trade Facilitation Masterplan (2015-2020), a strategic framework to make Malaysia the ‘Logistics Gateway to Asia’ by 2020 and beyond. To achieve this vision, five strategic frameworks and 21 follow-up actions have been planned. MATRADE takes on an active part in ensuring the success of this masterplan by being a permanent member in the action plan to increase compliance with market regulations of trading partners. To promote the transport and logistics sectors, MATRADE organised seminars related to business opportunities as well as foreign market regulations in 2019. This includes the Sharing Expertise by Logistics Service Providers event organised through collaboration with Pos Logistics Berhad, Maskargo Logistics Sdn Bhd and Kontena Nasional Berhad. SME Masterplan under the supervision of SME Corporation is the basis for the development of SMEs under the RMK-11 as the country enters its final phase of becoming a high-income nation. This Masterplan aims to bring SMEs to the next stage of development by increasing contribution to 41% of the GDP by 2020. Six High Impact Programmes (HIPs) have been identified to produce SMEs that are competitive and sustainable. MATRADE supports this plan through HIP 4: Going Export Programme (Go-Ex). MATRADE helps to increase SME export growth through specific market penetration programmes like HIP 4. Since October 2014, this effort has enabled development programmes to incorporate export promotional elements to encourage internationalisation of Malaysian companies. This is a new approach in existing development programmes that focus on SME competitiveness.
