98 // MATRADE Annual Report 2019 The National Automotive Policy (NAP) was introduced in 2006 to create transformation and integration of the local automotive industry into the global industry network. NAP has been reviewed in 2009 to increase the capacity and competitiveness of the local automotive industry. It was aimed to ensure a conducive investment environment to strengthen the local automotive industry. MATRADE is actively involved in market expansion initiatives such as conducting programmes to promote Malaysian companies in the international market. This is through the participation of companies in international trade exhibitions for the automotive industry such as Automechanika Shanghai 2019. Participation in international exhibitions is one of the measures to strengthen branding of Malaysian automotive products and services sector in the international market. In 2019 MATRADE also organised EAMs specifically to seek business opportunities in the automotive industry in potential countries such as in Viet Nam. Besides this, market research and information on products and services relating to the automotive industry is provided by MATRADE’s 46 offices globally for circulation to the local business community. Placed under the supervision of MITI, the masterplan charts the long-term framework for development of the Malaysian aerospace industry as a leading player in Southeast Asia, with a strong foothold in international markets by 2030. The masterplan targets to generate an annual income of RM55.2 billion with the creation of more than 32,000 high-income jobs. The five pillars of industrial strength are aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, repair & operations (MRO), systems integration, engineering & design services as well as education and training.
