43 MATRADE Core Objectives MATRADE Annual Report 2022 MATRADE continuously conducts webinars in collaboration with its overseas offices to provide exporters the latest market and industry information. The ASEAN and Oceania section held six (6) webinar series throughout the year to encourage market expansion into Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, and Australia. Participation in the webinars is open to companies and stakeholders interested in accessing market information and benefiting from knowledge shared by Trade Commissioners and external speakers. Among topics covered were those related to market access, procedures and certification, the halal industry, and corporate establishment in foreign markets. Webinar Virtual Throughout 2022 The three month long INSP involving three companies from the food and beverage, lifestyle, and medical equipment sectors resulted in sales of RM617,246.98. One company achieved a match through physical participation, while the other companies engaged virtually with their importer counterparts. INSP ASEAN & Oceania (Hybrid) Hybrid 1 Oct to 31 Dec 2022 Through the e-BizMatch platform, MATRADE organises business matching sessions between Malaysian companies. A total of 31 sessions were organised in 2022, involving the food and beverage, lifestyle, furniture, construction materials, medical equipment, electrical and electronics, green technology, and education sectors, generating RM260,049,280.46 in sales. e-BizMatch Virtual Throughout 2022 The Prime Minister’s Official Visit to Japan was organised in conjunction with both the 40th anniversary of the Look East Policy with Japan and 27th Nikkei International Conference. The conference was themed ‘The Future of Asia: Redefining Asia’s Role in a Divided World.’ The Prime Minister was joined by MITI Senior Minister YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali. The official delegation was jointly organised with the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) to enhance trade and attract investments from Japan. The Prime Minister and Malaysian delegation held meetings with the Prime Minister of Japan during the conference, which were covered by prominent Japanese media outlets Nikkei and TV Tokyo. A meet and greet session was held with Japanese conglomerates and industry key players (Sogo Sosha) such as Mitsubishi, Marubeni, Aeon, Sumitomo, NTT, and Hitachi. The companies showed keen interest to collaborate in the electric vehicle, halal industry, higher education, pharmaceuticals, and tourism sectors. Prime Minister’s Official Visit to Japan Japan 23-28 May 2022 CHINA & EAST ASIA (CNEA) MATRADE and MIDA coordinated meetings between the MITI Senior Minister and Sogo Sosha companies Marubeni Corporation, House Foods Group, and Mureta Manufacturing to enhance exports of Malaysian products and services to Japan. The Senior Minister also held a bilateral meeting with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), which witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to develop the aviation industry.
