MATRADE Annual Report 2022

48 TOWARDS THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE EXPORTS The objective of the Trade and Investment Mission (TIM) to Mexico and Peru was to explore new markets by identifying the potential for diverse Malaysian products and services to meet both countries’ demands. It also served as a starting point in re-establishing post-pandemic bilateral economic relations with Mexico and Peru, as the last mission was held in 2016. The mission involved a series of bilateral meetings with the Deputy Ministers of both countries: 1. Deputy Minister of Economy of Mexico, Luz María de la Mora Sánchez; 2. Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade of Peru, Ana Cecelia Gervasi; and 3. Deputy Minister of Economy of Peru, Alex Alonso Contreras Miranda. The meetings discussed bilateral trade and investment opportunities, focusing on the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), in which all three are participating countries. The CPTPP provides the potential for Malaysian businesses to use Mexico and Peru as regional distribution hubs for their products and services. It also provides priority access for export to CPTPP countries.
