58 TOWARDS THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE EXPORTS Medical Fair Asia is the largest trade exhibition in the Asian region for the medical and healthcare sector. The 2022 edition of the exhibition was held in a hybrid format, allowing nearly 12,700 visitors and 593 exhibitors to access the physical exhibition at Marina Bay Sands. The virtual platform remained accessible until 9 September. MATRADE played a crucial role in facilitating the physical participation of 11 Malaysian companies under the Malaysian Pavilion. These companies, which included medical device manufacturers and pharmaceutical distributors, experienced a multitude of opportunities to connect with potential buyers from Singapore and nearby Asian countries. Furthermore, it garnered collaboration interests from various international companies, showcasing the appeal and competitiveness of Malaysian exhibitors. The demand for medical devices and pharmaceutical products was notably high, with catheters, syringes, personal protective equipment (PPE), face masks, wipes, and general pharmaceuticals receiving significant attention. 14th Edition Medical Fair Asia 2022 Singapore 31 Aug – 2 Sept 2022 (physical), 3-9 Sept 2022 (virtual) MATRADE conducted a hybrid INSP for the Life Sciences sector from July to December 2022 to promote Malaysian medical devices and pharmaceutical products. During the programme, MATRADE facilitated a total of 16 business matching sessions, connecting Malaysian companies with importers from countries such as the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Nigeria, and Chile. The participating Malaysian companies showcased a range of products, including latex gloves, syringes, catheters, surgical thread, and over-the-counter (OTC) medications, all of which experienced significant demand. International Sourcing Programme (INSP) in the Life Sciences Sector Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 7-10 Sept 2022 business enquiries 1259 exhibitors 593 MATRADE has not only facilitated the participation of Malaysian companies in international exhibitions but has also embraced digitalisation initiatives by organising the International Sourcing Programme (INSP) in a hybrid format. This initiative aims to support Malaysian companies in expanding their presence in export markets and exploring new opportunities abroad by leveraging digital platforms. Recognising the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic and travel restrictions, MATRADE has continued its virtual efforts through the INSP. This alternative approach of virtual business matching between Malaysian companies and international buyers has proven to be highly effective in creating collaboration opportunities and boosting exports for Malaysian companies in the lifestyle sector. Within the Lifestyle Sector, a total of 14 business matching sessions have been conducted, featuring a wide range of products such as furniture, healthcare products, personal grooming accessories, and cleaning supplies from Malaysia. These sessions have connected Malaysian exporters with buyers from various regions, including North America, Saudi Arabia, Fiji, and the Philippines. International Sourcing Programme (INSP) in Lifestyle Sector Kuala Lumpur Jul – Dec 2022 MIFF is an iconic exhibition for the furniture sector in Southeast Asia, showcasing the unique designs of high-quality, contemporary furniture produced by local industries. MATRADE conducted a hybrid INSP in conjunction with MIFF 2022 to enhance export sales for Malaysian furniture and support small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs) in maintaining their competitiveness in the international market. A total of 20 business matching sessions were organised involving 15 Malaysian companies and four importing companies from the United States, Japan, South Korea, and Azerbaijan. Products that were in high demand included rubberwood furniture, bedroom furniture, dining room furniture, living room furniture, and ready-to-assemble furniture.
