60 TOWARDS THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE EXPORTS The Big 5 Dubai is the largest trade exhibition for the construction and building materials sector in the Middle East region. It attracts over 2,000 exhibition participants from more than 60 countries, including international organisations, government bodies, and trade associations from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Thailand, Germany, France, Italy, and Turkey. The construction sector in the UAE is driven by the country’s development agenda focused on industrial infrastructure, transportation, and energy. The construction industry’s value in the UAE is expected to grow between 3.7- 4.7% over the next five years. The 43rd edition of The Big 5 Dubai was Malaysia’s 21st participation in the event to promote the export of construction and building materials and products and services to the UAE and the surrounding regions. Despite budget constraints, MATRADE successfully led the participation of 12 Malaysian companies under the Malaysian pavilion. In the previous year, only two companies were able to participate due to travel restrictions. Among the products that garnered attention during the exhibition were recycled rubber, electrical sockets and wiring accessories, waterproofing products, and additives for road construction. The Malaysian pavilion received visits from over 800 attendees, attracting 545 trade enquiries. Most enquiries involved buyers from the MENA region, such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and Qatar, as well as visitors from South Asia, Africa, and Europe. Malaysian companies that participated gained new opportunities and potential indications, considering the ongoing high demand for Malaysian-made products and services due to their quality and customer trust. ARCHIDEX is an award-winning and leading architecture exhibition in Asia, held annually since 2000. A total of 31 business meetings were arranged, attended by 29 Malaysian companies and two foreign buyers from Indonesia with extensive networks in the construction and building materials sector. Besides the business matching sessions, other highlights included the Future City Idea Competition, ARCHITAlent Competition (ASEAN Level), and Malaysian Institute of Architects Night. Products and services promoted by Malaysian companies included deck systems, safety glass, smart home solutions, precast concrete, and integrated concrete machinery and moulds.
