75 MATRADE Core Objectives MATRADE Annual Report 2022 The inclusive Bumiputera, Women and Youth Exporters Development Programme (BWYEDP) aims to ensure the competitiveness and sustainability of companies from this segment who are new to exporting and are ready to venture into the global marketplace. BWYEDP was first introduced in 2004 as MATRADE’s Trade Outreach Programme to foster Bumiputera exporters. The programme was revamped and expanded in 2005 to include a focus on women entrepreneurs and later updated to include youth in 2014. BWYEDP’s three-year support programme helps companies expand their exports by emphasising competitiveness and sustainability. Training sessions covering competency, international business exposure, contact networking and mentoring, and leadership and entrepreneurship skills are tailor-made to suit the specific needs of each participant company. Since inception, 430 companies have been selected for participation, with 342 graduating and 58 still currently engaged in the programme. Between 2004 and 2022, the companies have participated in 954 BWYEDP trade promotion activities, receiving a total of RM19.07 million in assistance, and generating export sales of RM2.31 billion. For 2022, export sales from BWYEDP activities totaled MYR116.5 million, 53.9% more than in 2022.
