Malaysia Exporters of Outdoor Furniture Directory
A
vi
of creativity in Malaysian design delights even the veteran collector and the
experienced theme decorator.
Looking good is just a part of the equation. From the start, Malaysia’s timber
industry was well-developed and managed with established systems and
documented procedures. Since 2001, The Malaysian Timber Certification
Council (MTCC) recognised the need for a robust certification scheme to
encourage the adoption of sustainable practices amongst furniture players.
In 2001, MTCC set up the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) –
making it the first such tropical timber certification scheme in the Asia Pacific
region. The MTCS is endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest
Certification Scheme, the largest certification scheme in the world. Malaysia also
has certifiers for the Forest Stewardship Council (FCS) certification scheme,
which aims to promote responsible management of the world’s forest.
To date, many Malaysian companies are already integrating sustainable
practices into their operations. In addition to using eco-friendly materials,
Malaysians manufacturers adopt green production methods and incorporate
sustainable and chemical-free fabrics fibres in their upholstery as part of their
green initiatives. Today, furniture makers use Malaysian wood that is primarily
sourced from sustainable forests, demonstrating a truly serious commitment
to producing furniture that is not only beautiful or comfortable but safe for the
environment.
In addition to adorning countless homes, Malaysian outdoor furniture are
penetrating higher-end applications for today’s discerning market. Reflecting a
mushrooming global trend, owners of urban high-rise apartments and condos
have taken to gracing their balconies with outdoor furniture, in order to create
a landed feel. Increasingly, five-star resorts and spas are also leveraging on
the evergreen appeal of garden furniture to imbue their settings with a natural
ambiance. Hence, Malaysian suppliers do not only cater for the end user, but
also supply for contracts and institutional users e.g. hotels, stadium and F1
lounges. In a very short time, Malaysia’s outdoor furniture specialists have
progressed from OEM to OBM, with some now making penetrating the premium
ODM segment.
As we continue to enhance our capacity and capabilities, and well supported
by Government agencies such as MATRADE, Malaysian Furniture Promotion
Council (MFPC) and Malaysia Timber Council (MTC), Malaysia is poised to be
a world-class supplier of outdoor furniture to the world.
