MONDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2021, KUALA LUMPUR: A total of seven Malaysian companies participated in the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2021 coordinated by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). The event was organised in a hybrid format from 5 – 10 November 2021.Total sales generated during the event was RM284.4 million.

Malaysian companies that participated in this event offered packaging and test services to the semiconductor industry, testing equipment machines for electronic industry, cable and wire harness, disposable medical devices to exquisite jewellery and bridal couture. MATRADE had arranged over 280 business meetings between the exhibitors and potential buyers from China. Among the Malaysian products which has high demand were packaging, test portfolios for high technology industry, custom made jewellery and bridal gown & couture.

CIIE 2021 brought together over 3000 companies from more than 127 countries including 58 Digital Country pavilions. More than 280,000 trade visitors attended the exhibition and conferences during the six-day event.

According to Tn. Syed Mohamad Fairus Shaik Ismail, Trade Commissioner in Shanghai, “The positive sales outcome reported by Malaysian companies throughout the event testified the huge demand for Malaysian products in China market, particularly during post pandemic period.”

“The CIIE continues to serve as an important platform for Chinese imported products particularly from Malaysia. This platform created awareness and access to emerging markets that posed by lower tier cities in China”, he added.

In 2020, China remained as Malaysia's largest export destination. Trade with China during the first nine months of 2021 rose by 27.4% to RM304.1 billion compared to the same period of 2020. Exports was up by 19% to RM137 billion on account of higher exports of E&E products, manufactures of metal, LNG as well as chemicals and chemical products. Imports from China increased by 35.1% to RM167.09 billion.
