THURSDAY, 13 DECEMBER 2018, KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) is organising its signature export promotion initiative called Export Acceleration Mission (EAM) in New Delhi, India in conjunction with one of India’s top trade fairs, ACETECH New Delhi. The mission is aimed at promoting Malaysian capabilities in construction and building materials in India, which is one of the key markets MATRADE is targeting. The mission takes place from 11to 17 December 2018 and involves 13 companies.

The initiative is timely as there is a rising demand for construction services and building materials products in India due to the growing investment by the Indian government in improving the country’s transport infrastructure, energy and residential. The mission features pre-arranged business meetings between Malaysian companies with potential clients, briefing by KPMG New Delhi on insights of doing business in India and site visits to related associations and retailers in India.

According to Datin Rusiah Mohamed, Director of Construction and Business Services Section at MATRADE, the EAM offers Malaysian companies an ideal platform to introduce their products or services to buyers in not only India but from around the region too. “Such B2B matching is considered the most effective platform for Malaysian companies to secure export sales. This effort is also important in boosting the trade of the construction and building materials sector as well as strengthening the Malaysian companies’ footprint in a huge market such as India,” she said.

“Malaysian companies need to start exploring the opportunities in India as the Indian government is currently aggressive in developing the country’s infrastructure. One of the projects that Malaysian companies can tap on is the Bharatmala, which is a road and highways project by the Indian government. This is the best time to offer them the Malaysian expertise and quality products,” Datin Rusiah mentioned.

Construction and building materials sector is one of Malaysia’s key drivers in export. In 2017, Malaysia’s total export of construction industry was valued at RM4.07 billion while the building materials total export value was at RM29.77 billion.

Malaysian companies keen to explore the world markets particularly South Asia are urged to reach out to MATRADE. The trade promotion agency has over 46 global trade offices that serve as a link for local companies to meet with potential buyers, helping the companies understand foreign markets / rules and regulations to export as well as facilitating the companies’ other export requirements. Malaysian companies who are interested to venture into Indian market are advised to contact our trade offices in Mumbai and Chennai.
