Bridging The World: Malaysian Studios Gear Up for Tokyo Game Show 2024
KUALA LUMPUR, SEPTEMBER 13 (Friday): The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) continues to drive the exports of games and creative contents by bringing Malaysian gaming industry players to one of Asia’s largest games exhibition, Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2024. TGS will take place from 26 to 29 September 2024 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan.
A total of 10 Malaysian game developers and animation studios, namely Adticles, Ammobox Studios, Bear Down Studios, Dreamscapes Edtech, Esolved MSC, Goolee, Magnus Games Studio, Rcade Studio, Why Knot and Todak Studios will promote their services and expertise in game development and publishing; extended reality development (XR), animation outsourcing production; gamification platforms and metaverse, digital and interactive learning content; 2D & 3D graphic design as well as video game asset creation. The companies will be hosted under the Malaysia Pavilion, coordinated by MATRADE and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
MATRADE Tokyo is coordinating high impact activities at the Malaysia Pavilion, including business matching, networking sessions and media exposure to facilitate connections with global industry partners and investors throughout the four-day event. While MDEC is set to have high level meetings with a number of Japanese game publishers and tech incubators to further expand collaboration within the gaming industry.
“Japan has a large pool of gamers, with the user base projected to reach 66 million by 2029. In terms of revenue, the Japanese gaming market is forecasted to generate US$44.41 billion by the end of 2024, making it one of the largest and most lucrative gaming markets globally. MATRADE’s participation at TGS 2024, in close collaboration with MDEC, is a strategic initiative to position Malaysian studios within the global gaming ecosystem”, said Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, CEO of MATRADE.

Malaysia’s games are gaining global traction, thanks to the rich cultural elements infused into each title, which provide unique and compelling experiences for players around the world. Malaysian developers are capable in various game genres, from innovative mobile games to sophisticated PC and console experiences. Among the games’ titles to be featured are Eximus: Seize the Frontline, Eternal Guardians, Xeroes, Mastra, Re:Legend, Police Sentri, ToGather: Island, and Goolee.
More than 700 exhibitors will be participating at TGS 2024, including major Japanese players such as Nintendo, Sony PlayStation, Sega, Square Enix, Capcom, Bandai Namco and Konami. It is estimated that the global gaming market will reach US$503.14 billion by 2025, with Asia Pacific is set to remain the top gaming market worldwide.
