The TradeTalk@MATRADE is organised in conjunction with a Trade and Investment Mission (TIM) to Peru, Mexico and Chile scheduled from 14 to 27 May 2016. To be spearheaded by MATRADE, the TIM will be led by YB Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, the Minister of International Trade and Industry. This mission is aimed at enhancing bilateral trade, particularly to increase Malaysian exports and explore business opportunities through collaborations, partnerships and joint ventures with the Latin American business community.

In 2015, Malaysia’s total trade with Latin American market amounted to RM30.6 billion. Malaysia’s total trade with Mexico was RM7.7 million, an increase of 17.5 per cent compared to 2014. Our trade with Peru totalled RM508 million, an increment of 14.2 per cent while trade with Chile had increased by 36 per cent to RM1.6 billion.

According to Madam Aureen Jean Nonis, “The trade relation with the three countries continues to grow over the years and the signing of Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) will open and generate more business opportunities for Malaysian products and services into these markets.”

“Apart from increasing the awareness on export opportunities in Latin America, the sessions also helped the participants understand how to address the challenges, such as differences in culture, in expanding their export share into the Latin American market,” she added.
