MATRADE Brings Export Day to Sarawak
Tuesday, April 12th, Kuching, Location: Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) organised a dedicated event for Sarawak’s business community called Export Day Sarawak 2016 at the Imperial Hotel, Kuching today. The one-day event is an extension of MATRADE’s signature event, Export Day, held in Kuala Lumpur every year.
The event was inaugurated by the Minister of Resource Planning and Environment II YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah bin Ali Hasan who is also the Minister of Public Utilities and Minister of Industrial Development. Datuk Amar was representing the Chief Minister of Sarawak YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Haji Adenan bin Haji Mohamad Satim and was accompanied by MATRADE’s chief executive officer Dato’ Dzulkifli Mahmud.
Organised for the first time in the state, Export Day Sarawak 2016 aims to boost awareness on export and encourage Sarawakian business community to deepen their engagement with MATRADE in the effort to become global champions. The programs lined up for the event included talks on the global economic outlook, the role of e-commerce in international trade, Trade Talk on MATRADE’s extensive range of exporters development programmes (eTRADE, GoEx, Mid-Tier Companies Development Programme) and success story sharing sessions by companies from Sarawak.
According to Dato’ Dzulkifli Mahmud, Export Day Sarawak 2016 is pivotal for the government to drive more export contributions from the state. “This event is a capacity building initiative by MATRADE and it allows us to engage with the Sarawakian companies, particularly the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). There are a lot of export talents here and we hope Export Day Sarawak 2016 will help us discover more export players from Sarawak,†he mentioned.
He added that at the event, participants can take the opportunity to register as a MATRADE member and seek export advisory services from MATRADE’ Integrated Centre for Export (ICE) brought exclusively to Sarawak. The ICE booth at the event featured export-relevant agencies such as SIRIM Berhad, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), EXIM Bank, SME Bank, SME Corp and Federal Agriculture Marketing Agency (FAMA). Complementing the list of agencies is Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).
Currently, there are more than 320 companies from Sarawak across various industries such as automotive, machineries & appliances, palm oil products, building materials, shipbuilding, handcrafted products, food and beverages that are registered with MATRADE’s Sarawak.
“We are extremely happy to bring Export Day to Sarawak and we will continue to carry out more similar activities in Sarawak in years to come. I am confident that this event will greatly assist the Sarawakian business community in raising their awareness on export,†Dato’ Dzulkifli shared.
Over 250 participants, who are mostly SMEs, attended the event which started from 9am till 6pm.
