KUALA LUMPUR, 24 JULY 2023 (MONDAY): Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) continues to drive the exports of Electrical and Electronics (E&E) by leading the participation of 11 Malaysian companies at the prestigious SEMICON West 2023, held from 11 to 13 July, in San Francisco, USA.

The Malaysian pavilion featured a diverse range of microelectronics, including cutting-edge products and technologies in automated testing equipment (ATE), vision inspection machines, precision dispensing systems, electronic manufacturing services (EMS), and outsourced semiconductor testing and assembly (OSAT) services. The capable Malaysian companies exhibited were ATC Surface Finishing, Amerix Metal Machining Technology, Betamek (M) Electronics, CG Global, Coraza Systems, ECA Advanced Solutions, Ideal Vision, NSW Automation, QES Mechatronic, TT Vision Technologies, and ViTrox Technologies.

“SEMICON West is undoubtedly a not-to-be-missed event for Malaysian semiconductor industry players. This year marked MATRADE’s 13th participation at SEMICON West, which reinforced MATRADE’s unwavering commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s presence within the global semiconductor value chain. The Malaysia pavilion was teeming with top-level engagement, including multiple high-profile meetings with global industry giants over the course of the three-day event, which resulted in potential deals worth USD38.4 million. This exceptional achievement underscores the strong interest and confidence in Malaysia’s technical capabilities within the industry. As a major link within the global electronics supply chain, Malaysia accounts for 7% of global semiconductor trade and approximately 13% of global chip assembly, testing, and packaging being done in the country”, said Sharimahton Mat Saleh, MATRADE’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Export Acceleration).

“MATRADE remains dedicated to elevating Malaysia’s technological excellence on the global stage. SEMICON West 2024 in San Francisco, California, and SEMICON West 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona, are already in our plans. We will continue to strategically position Malaysia through our continuous presence at such iconic events”, affirmed Irvin Francis, Trade Commissioner of MATRADE Los Angeles.

Electrical and electronics (E&E) is Malaysia’s top export, valued at RM593.52 billion (USD134.79 billion) in 2022. This represented 22.5% growth from 2021 and contributed 38.3% of Malaysia’s total exports. Semiconductor devices and electronics ICs accounted for a staggering 65.2% of Malaysia’s total E&E exports in 2022, valued at RM386.89 billion (USD67.83 billion), with Singapore, the USA, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan being Malaysia’s major export markets. In 2022, Malaysia ranked as the 12th largest exporter of E&E products and the 6th largest semiconductor exporter worldwide.
