FRIDAY, 5 APRIL 2024, KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian aerospace industry is poised for global recognition as MATRADE leads the Malaysia Pavilion at the prestigious Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) 2024 in the United Kingdom. This strategic initiative aims to highlight Malaysia's aerospace prowess on a global scale, providing an important platform for local companies particularly Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to integrate into the global aerospace supply chain.

In collaboration with National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO), MATRADE is set to highlight the capabilities of 15 Malaysian companies across various sectors including aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), system integration, engineering services, education and astronautics at FIA 2024 which will be held from 22 - 26 July 2024.

MATRADE Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Abu Bakar Yusof, expressed confidence in Malaysia's aerospace sector, citing a remarkable 31% surge in exports of aerospace products to reach RM979.9 million in the first two months of 2024 as compared to the same period of last year. During this period, the major export destinations for Malaysia’s aerospace products were the United States of America (USA), China, Indonesia, the United Kingdom (UK) and Singapore.

Overall, the UK is a significant export destination for Malaysian aerospace products, with aerospace products exports (parts of planes and helicopters) to the country increasing by 44% to reach RM287.2 million in 2023.

The UK demand for aerospace products and services is anticipated to maintain its upward trajectory, driven by the resurgence of air travel, a spike in aircraft orders and the expansion of the MRO sector. Malaysian companies are encouraged to leverage this burgeoning demand by engaging with potential clients, project leaders and aerospace procurement officials during FIA 2024.

“Malaysia is ascending to new heights in aerospace. Our established reputation as a reliable supplier of critical aircraft components reflects the industry's skill, commitment and growth trajectory. FIA 2024 represents a strategic platform for us to showcase these achievements and our commitment to sustainability, aligning with the global aerospace industry's environmental objectives. We would like to invite Malaysian aerospace companies to take this opportunity and join us at FIA 2024,” he said.

NAICO Malaysia reported that Malaysia's aerospace industry generated revenues of RM18 billion in 2023, creating 28,500 job opportunities and showcasing the sector's robust growth trajectory.

NAICO Malaysia CEO, Ts. Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah adds, “This engagement at FIA 2024 aligns perfectly with Malaysia's aspirations as outlined in the New Industrial Masterplan (NIMP) 2030 and the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint (MAIB) 2030. It presents a unique opportunity for Malaysian enterprises to contribute towards national and international aerospace objectives, enhancing high-value exports, fostering high skilled job creation and increasing Malaysia’s presence in the global aerospace industry”.

He also added “To further develop the aerospace industry, NAICO established the MyAero Centre in 2023, which acts as a collaborative platform, marking a key step in Malaysia's digital transformation within the aerospace industry. With this, the MyAero Centre is set to drive Malaysia's aerospace sector forward through a strategic partnership with a leading technology-based organisation. This collaboration is a cornerstone of digital transformation strategy, aligning with the NIMP 2030 to foster high growth activities. It underscores NAICO Malaysia’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement in aerospace, ensuring Malaysia remains at the forefront of the industry on a global scale”.
