WEDNESDAY, 7 SEPTEMBER 2022, KUALA LUMPUR: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and UPM Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (UPMH), was signed in conjunction with MIHAS 2022. This strategic collaboration is aimed to accelerate the growth of consultancy, education and training services provided by UPM Holdings including to promote innovative, green and sustainable products, as well as technologies developed by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to the global market. Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is ranked 123rd in QS World University Ranking 2023 and second best university in the country.

The partnership also reflects MATRADE's commitment in assisting SMEs to embark in export market and remain competitive globally in promoting innovative, green & sustainable products and technologies to the international markets.

This collaboration also will offer a new synergy to MATRADE personnel to upgrade their knowledge and qualifications specifically in post graduate programmes.

According to MATRADE Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, in the context of globalisation, the MoU will serve as a catalyst to create more market access to our top public universities’ innovative products, consultancy, and training services as well as to introduce our local universities, to the world.

Group Chief Executive Officer of UPMH, Azrul Reza Aziz said, it is imperative to establish the right partnership in charting the path towards world’s halal economy. The new MoU with MATRADE will leverage on UPM experts in Halal economy globally conducted by UPM Education and Training.

MIHAS – The World’s Largest Halal Exhibition

Since its inception in 2004, MIHAS has become an event for local and foreign businesses to thrive in the Halal trade and to contribute significantly to the global Halal economy. In 2019, MIHAS attracted around 30,000 traders and visitors, resulting in a total immediate and negotiated trade value of over RM1.6 billion (USD 380 Million).

MIHAS is a robust marketplace for both international and local players to seize opportunities beyond Halal food including Halal pharmaceutical, medical devices, finance, modest fashion, personal care and cosmetics, green technologies and even Muslim-friendly tourism.

MIHAS is an international event with participation of International Pavilions from countries across the globe, from trade commissions to various Government agencies, from industry players to market leaders.
