WEDNESDAY, 26 OCTOBER 2022, DÜSSELDORF: Malaysia is showcasing its strength in supplying recycled ocean-bound plastics at the world’s leading plastics and rubber trade fair, KFair 2022 through its Malaysia Pavilion spearheaded by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), throughs its Frankfurt office.

With 14 companies, the Malaysia Pavilion became central attention due to the availability of recycled ocean-bound plastic products offered by Malaysian companies. Among the companies were Heng Hiap Industries Sdn Bhd, Respack Sdn Bhd and Poly Edge Sdn Bhd.

According to MATRADE’s Trade Commissioner based in Frankfurt, Madam Zuhaila Sedek, the Malaysia Pavilion has been gaining strong traction due to the availability of recycled ocean-bound plastic product producers. “As one of Southeast Asia’s economic powerhouses, Malaysia is a strong proponent of plastic circularity and we continue to encourage our Malaysian companies to venture into the ocean-bound plastics certification programme as there is growing demand in this segment. Growing the number of producers of recycled ocean-bound plastic products will also influence positive changes in our industrial ecosystem.”

As a strong proponent of circular economy activities, Malaysia is known to champion its industry players to move towards sustainability practices through national policies such as the National Trade Blueprint, Malaysia Plastics Sustainability Roadmap 2021-2030 and National Investment Aspirations.

The active involvement of several stakeholders including the federal and state governments, international organisations, academia, associations, industrial participants, financial institutions, and non-governmental organisations significantly influenced the creation of these policies.

“I believe Malaysia’s move to champion sustainability is very apt as the European Union member countries prepare to introduce its Sustainability Supply Chain Due Diligence Act,” Madam Sedek said.

Visitors planning to visit K2022 are invited to the Malaysia Pavilion to discover more about Malaysian capabilities in plastic circularity efforts as well as to exchange views.

MATRADE, an agency under the patronage of Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade & Industry, has over 46 global offices in major cities around the world. Its role is to facilitate Malaysian companies’ access to the global markets.
