FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2022, KUALA LUMPUR: The local Oil and Gas (O&G) companies appear to have re-discovered their appetite for global foray post-Covid 19 epidemic, if Malaysia’s participation in the annual Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) is anything to go by. This is because the Malaysian pavilion at ADIPEC, which is organised by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has attracted the participation of 20 Malaysian exporters, while it is estimated that more than 10 other local O&G companies will be involved in ADIPEC 2022 as exhibitors on their own or as visitors.

ADIPEC, which will take place from 31 October to 3 November 2022 is the largest O&G trade fair in the Middle East. MATRADE has been organising a Malaysian pavilion in the event since 2014. Last year, the Malaysian pavilion attracted the participation of 16 Malaysian exhibitors. MATRADE will be arranging business meetings for the 20 exhibitors with potential buyers from countries that regularly attend ADIPEC such as those from Middle East, North Africa, as well as from China, Canada, South Korea, Russia, Italy and France.

Currently, Malaysian O&G companies have direct presence or are involved in projects in most of the Middle Eastern countries, with the highest concentration being in countries such as UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iraq, while at the same time getting more involved in markets such as Oman.

The Malaysian companies will showcase products and services related to fabrication of oil & gas process equipment, engineering services, mechanical services, engineering solutions, explosion protection (EX) compliance services, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) solutions as well as, pipeline inspection and cleaning services.

According to MATRADE’s Director of O&G, Chemical and Energy Section, Mr. S. Jai Shankar, the strong participation clearly underlies the importance that the local O&G companies place to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. “Apart from the ASEAN market, MENA region is a market that our O&G companies are very focused on over the last years,” he noted. In 2021, total exports of oil and gas products between Malaysia and UAE recorded an increase of 29.5 per cent to RM646.5 million compared with RM499.2 million in 2020.

As such, MATRADE continues to promote and deepen market access for Malaysian O&G companies in key markets in the region. “Apart from our participation in ADIPEC, we have also been supporting our companies by providing them access to National Oil Companies (NOCs) in the region such as ARAMCO and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) so that they can get registered with them as vendors,” he pointed out.

MATRADE has offices in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Cairo, Egypt and Dubai, UAE in the region. These offices, promote Malaysian O&G sector’s capacity and capabilities in various areas such as offshore and onshore fabrications, conceptual engineering & detailed design, marine repair & conversion, engineering and construction as well as drilling fluids, drilling waste management and oilfield product distribution.
