DIRECTORY
The conception of Malaysia Exporters of
Franchising Directory marks a significant
collaboration between Malaysia External
Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE)
and Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA). It
demonstrates a joint effort and commitment to
the growth of franchise industry in Malaysia.
Since foreign franchisors penetrated the
Malaysian market in the 60’s, the idea of
franchising has been slowly creeping into our
businessmen’s mind. Since early 90’s, we
have been witnessing a significant number
of businesses being converted into franchise
system. Today, we can see homegrown brands like Marrybrown, Secret Recipe,
Daily Fresh and Smart Reader continuously expanding into overseas market.
This is evident that our franchise brands have the resilience and competitiveness
to venture into the international arena.
According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Domestic Trade,
Cooperatives & Consumerism (MDTCC), until December 2013, a total of
689 franchise businesses were registered in Malaysia. Food sector leads
by 35% followed by children and pre-school education, 12% and apparels &
accessories, 11%. To date, our homegrown brands have now penetrated into
more than 50 countries worldwide such as Indonesia, Singapore, China, Saudi
Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
