MATRADE Pavilion Highlights Malaysia’s Competitive Edge in Healthcare at SEAcare 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, 9 MAY 2024 (FRIDAY) - The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) proudly showcased the MATRADE Pavilion at the Southeast Asia Healthcare & Pharma Show (SEACare) 2025, presenting a strong line-up of Malaysian excellence in healthcare, medical technology and wellness solutions. The show was held at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC), from 23 to 25 April 2025.
This year, the MATRADE Pavilion brought together Malaysian companies offering a variety of products and services, including nutritional and wellness supplements, packaging for pharmaceutical applications, medical devices and healthcare products, regenerative and cell-based therapies, as well as disposable items such as syringes and specimen containers. All participating companies shared a focus on quality, safety and product reliability and several have achieved relevant international certifications.
Malaysia has built a solid international reputation in the healthcare sector, particularly in the medical devices segment. Known for delivering reliable quality at competitive prices, Malaysian medical products—including gloves and catheters—are widely used across the globe. In 2024, Malaysia’s medical device exports grew by 31.6% year-on-year, reaching RM37.03 billion. The majority of these exports were destined for key advanced markets such as the United States (USA), Belgium, Germany, Singapore and Japan, which together accounted for over 60% of Malaysia’s total exports in this sector.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Export Acceleration) of MATRADE, Mr Abu Bakar Yusof stated, “Our participation in SEACare 2025 underscores MATRADE’s steadfast commitment to empowering Malaysian healthcare companies in expanding their footprint in international markets including the new and fast-growing emerging markets. We are eager to build on this positive momentum and continue creating meaningful opportunities that drive the growth and global competitiveness of our local healthcare industry.”
As Southeast Asia’s premier platform for the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, SEACare plays a vital role in connecting Malaysian businesses with regional and global stakeholders, offering unparalleled opportunities to network, export and collaborate.
SEACare 2025 provided Malaysian companies with access to an important and growing regional healthcare market. It allowed businesses to engage directly with buyers, healthcare providers and potential partners from Southeast Asia and beyond. Participation in this event supported MATRADE’s broader efforts to build international business linkages and promote trusted Malaysian-made healthcare products.
In conjunction with the exhibition, MATRADE also organised the International Sourcing Programme (INSP)—a targeted business-matching initiative designed to connect Malaysian healthcare suppliers with potential global buyers. This year, the programme welcomed 14 foreign buyers from countries including the USA, Russia, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Myanmar, India and Bangladesh. The INSP generated a promising RM106 million in export sales.
Mr Abu Bakar further commented, “The success of the INSP reflects the growing global demand for Malaysian healthcare products, which are widely recognised for their competitive pricing and dependable quality. The platform has enabled Malaysian companies to engage directly with potential partners, explore business opportunities and cultivate long-term partnerships that are crucial for the continued growth and international expansion of our local industry players.”
