Malaysia Scores Billion-Ringgit Aerospace Wins in Paris
KUALA LUMPUR, 9 JULY 2025 (Wednesday) – Malaysia’s growing stature in the global aerospace industry was on full display at the 55th International Paris Airshow (IPAS 2025), where the Malaysian delegation recorded RM1.16 billion in potential sales, marking a major milestone for the country’s high-technology export ambitions.
Held from 16 to 22 June 2025 in Le Bourget, France, IPAS 2025 served as a platform for Malaysia to showcase its evolving aerospace ecosystem, from advanced manufacturing and MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) to aviation training and New Space technologies. The Malaysian delegation engaged in 145 high-impact business meetings with global buyers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and strategic stakeholders.
11 Malaysian companies participated, representing key sub-sectors such as composite aerostructures, aircraft systems, defence-related tech, hydrogen-powered gensets, and fan case manufacturing. Their presence underscored the country’s growing integration into global aerospace supply chains.
Malaysia’s participation was led by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), in strategic collaboration with the National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO Malaysia), and supported by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Invest Selangor Berhad, as well as the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Association (MAIA).
The Malaysia Pavilion, located prominently in Hall 3, stood out as the only ASEAN national pavilion at IPAS 2025. The pavilion was officially launched by YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia; YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor; and H.E. Datuk Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim, Ambassador of Malaysia to France.
“The strong outcome at the Paris Airshow demonstrates growing global confidence in Malaysia’s end-to-end aerospace capabilities, from precision engineering and MRO to New Space innovation,” said YBhg. Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE. “This momentum reflects our deepening integration into global supply chains, particularly in Europe and the Asia-Pacific. Malaysian exporters must seize this opportunity to scale their international footprint,” he added.
He shared that Malaysia’s aerospace exports reached RM3.63 billion in the first five months of 2025, signaling continued sectoral resilience and relevance.
Datuk Mustafa emphasised that in an era of global supply chain reconfiguration and shifting geopolitical alignments, Malaysia’s push into high-value industries such as aerospace is both timely and strategic. “We are not just exporting products, we are exporting capabilities, partnerships, and long-term value. At IPAS 2025, Malaysia also championed deeper engagement in the New Space sector and cross-industry innovation,” he said.
Prof. Ts. Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah, CEO of NAICO Malaysia, echoed this sentiment. “In today’s high-tech global economy, Malaysia must scale industrial depth. Aerospace is more than just an industry, it’s a catalyst for economic diversification, high-skilled jobs, and regional leadership in advanced manufacturing and engineering.”
A key innovation this year was the launch of Malaysia Aerospace Day 2025, a collaborative initiative by MATRADE that provided a focused networking platform for Malaysian companies to engage with European aerospace clusters, OEMs, and global partners.
Malaysia’s participation at IPAS aligns with the country’s strategic aspirations as outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2023 and the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 (MAIB 2030), both of which identify aerospace as a core driver of future-ready industrial transformation.
With a certified supply chain ecosystem, investor-friendly policies, and a highly skilled talent pool, Malaysia offers global aerospace players a compelling and competitive partnership hub in Southeast Asia.
