Malaysian SMEs Poised to Attend 19th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair (CISMEF), The Largest and Most Influential SME Fair In China
THURSDAY, 14 MARCH 2024, KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People's Republic of China, the CISMEF Bureau and Quantum Atlas Sdn Bhd, will be spearheading Malaysia’s participation at the upcoming 19th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair (CISMEF) which will be held at the China Import & Export Fair Complex, Guangzhou, China from 27th to 30th June 2024.
CISMEF is the largest and most influential SME fair in China, which is approved by the State Council of China for the development of SMEs. It aims to build a platform to display trade exchanges and cooperation between SMEs at home and abroad. Since its inception in 2004, CISMEF has been successfully held for 18 sessions in Guangzhou, and this year marks the 19th edition of the exhibition. Last year, the event saw the participation of more than 40 countries and received over 100,000 public and trade visitors. Exhibitors in CISMEF 2023 clinched deals valued at more than RMB10 billion in direct procurement, financing, industrial collaborations, and investment agreements.
The targeted sectors for Malaysia Pavilion include:
- Intelligent Manufacturing;
- Food and Beverage;
- Halal Products and Services;
- Fashion;
- Tourism;
- Craft & Gifts; and
- Business services such as marketing, legal, financial, advisory services etc.
A comprehensive promotion campaign will be put in place by the CISMEF’s organiser and Quantum Atlas Sdn Bhd to support Malaysian companies’ participation in the event. The promotion programmes will include promotion activities in social media platforms such as TikTok, WeChat, as well as live streaming by Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), apart from the conventional media promotion.
Malaysia’s participation in CISMEF is part of a series of more than 50 programmes that are being organised to mark the anniversary 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China (PRC). MATRADE was appointed by Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) as the implementing agency for the Economic Pillar for this initiative. Malaysia has been accorded the privilege of being the co-host country for CISMEF 2024 as part of this anniversary celebration.
Since the diplomatic relationship was established back in 1974, the relationship between Malaysia and PRC has been flourishing, especially in terms of bilateral trade. In 2023, PRC continued to be Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years since 2009, taking up 17.1% share of Malaysia’s total trade, with value amounted to RM450.84 billion (USD98.80 billion). Meanwhile, Malaysia’s exports to PRC grew by 98.07% for the last 10 years and last year, PRC was Malaysia’s second largest export destination.
