TUESDAY, 28 MAY 2024, KUALA LUMPUR: The International Sourcing Programme (INSP) organised by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) is proven to be an effective avenue to foster business collaboration between Malaysian companies and foreign buyers.  The programme slated for 3 days from 28th to 30th May at SEMICON Southeast Asia (SEA) in MITEC, Kuala Lumpur is a true embodiment of this notion.

A total of 25 foreign companies from Taiwan, China, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, Germany, Lebanon, Hong Kong and South Africa registered in this year's edition, including 9 of them joining virtually. In total, 110 business meetings have been arranged between Malaysian companies and foreign counterparts, opening up export opportunities around the world. Among products and services sourced include cleanroom gloves, machinery & equipment for the semiconductor industry, automated test equipment (ATE), precision metal components, electronics manufacturing services (EMS), cables and wire harness, and battery energy storage system (BESS).

MATRADE also leads the Malaysia Sourcing Pavilion which entails a number of high-impact programmes namely Round Table Discussions with Brazil and Bangladesh on semiconductor collaboration as well as the Vendor Development Programme by Intel in partnership with MIDA, essential to facilitate integration of Malaysian companies into Intel's local supply chain. In addition, sourcing talks by the Taiwan Electronic Equipment Industry Association (TEEIA), and the Malaysian Consortium of Mid-Tier Companies (MCMTC), pocket talk on environmental, social, and governance (ESG), networking sessions, as well as Malaysia’s tech showcase coordinated by MDEC and MRANTI are also arranged.

“This year marks a significant milestone as MATRADE forges strategic alliances with MIDA, MDEC and MRANTI, in a concerted effort to strengthen Malaysian companies' participation in the global E&E supply chain. MATRADE will continue bridging Malaysian companies in the E&E sector to foreign partners through various initiatives such as this”, said Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, CEO of MATRADE in his remarks at the networking session, attended by industry stakeholders.

For SEMICON SEA 2024, MATRADE partners with reputable industry associations abroad such as the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) and Taiwan Electronic Equipment Industry Association (TEEIA) to bring in their member companies for business matching programs.

Ts. Mahadhir Aziz, CEO of MDEC said, ‘MDEC, in partnership with MATRADE and MRANTI, is pleased to bring 15 outstanding Malaysian technology companies to the Malaysia Sourcing Pavilion at SEMICON SEA 2024. This collaboration exemplifies the spirit of the Malaysia Digital national strategic effort, enabling an environment where collective knowledge drives quick reactions to emerging trends, and digital transformation opens unparalleled prospects for development and innovation.’

Echoing the significance of concerted efforts with MATRADE and MDEC, MRANTI’s participation at SEMICON SEA 2024 goes beyond showcasing the latest advancements. “We are demonstrating how our focus on key technologies like DroneTech, Robotics, HealthTech and Autonomous Vehicles is truly transforming the future of semiconductors. As Malaysia’s national testbed for 5G innovation, we leverage these cutting-edge solutions to enhance connectivity and automation, ultimately propelling the industry forward”, said Datuk Wira Dr. Hj. Rais Hussin Hj. Mohamed Ariff, CEO of MRANTI.

In 2023, Malaysia's trade in electrical and electronics (E&E) reached a staggering RM931.39 billion. A significant portion of this trade, totalling RM575.45 billion came from exports, highlighting the vital role of the E&E industry in Malaysia's economy. Semiconductor devices, integrated circuits (ICs), transistors, and valves exports collectively made up 67% of Malaysia's total E&E exports in 2023, amounting to RM387.45 billion.
