MATRADE is collaborating with the Malaysia Timber Industry Board (MTIB) to create a powerful synergy, supporting the growth and global reach of Malaysian furniture industry players in the region. This is one of the many initiatives where MATRADE takes the lead in strategic partnerships with other government agencies to showcase exceptional Malaysian products and services in iconic trade fairs across the globe.
MATRADE’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said, " With the plan for several giga – projects that will be redefining the global image of Saudi Arabia as a key hospitality hub, there are plenty of opportunities for Malaysian furniture producers to make inroads into the market. This will further strengthen Malaysian furniture exports’ footprint in the market as Saudi Arabia is currently ranked among the top 10 export destinations for Malaysian furniture. Furthermore, Malaysia’s furniture exports to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region last year surged by 66.7% to RM606.7 million as compared to the year before. High growth was recorded for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi and Libyan markets."
MATRADE is committed to strengthening Malaysia’s position as a key player in global furniture trade by ramping up efforts to promote the capability of Malaysian players by leveraging our network of 49 overseas trade offices.
For the period of January to July 2024, Malaysia’s global exports of furniture rose double digit at 12.9% to RM7.14 billion as compared to the corresponding period of 2023. Major export destinations for Malaysian furniture were United States of America (USA), Singapore, Australia, Japan and The United Kingdom (UK). These markets accounted for more than 60% of Malaysia’s total exports of furniture.
