MATRADE and FedEx Malaysia Enter into an MOU
The cooperation will strengthen Malaysia's export capabilities by providing logistics expertise and support for SMEs looking to expand their global footprint
KUALA LUMPUR, 19 SEPTEMBER 2024 (THURSDAY) – The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and FedEx Malaysia (FedEx), inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the 20th International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2024) to enhance the export capabilities and global reach of Malaysian companies, especially Small and the Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The two-year MOU was signed at Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) with MATRADE being represented by its Chief Executive Officer, YBhg. Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz and FedEx by its Managing Director, Mr. Tien Long Woon. The MoU signing was witnessed by MATRADE’s Chairman, YB Dato' Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
Through this MoU, FedEx, which is one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, will provide Malaysian SMEs with access to its expansive network of logistics and supply chain solutions, through strategic engagements with exporters such as tailored seminars. These seminars will focus on topics such as international trade compliance,
techniques to succeed in international shipping and usage of innovative digital tools related to the logistics industry.
According to YB Dato' Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, the MoU signing represents a significant milestone in MATRADE's efforts to forge strategic alliances with key stakeholders in both the private and public sectors. “It underscores our commitment to connecting Malaysian exporters with global buyers and creating more value for the country's export community through collaborative initiatives,” he said.
He added that this initiative also aligns with the 12th Malaysia Plan which emphasises on SME development, digitalisation and enhanced trade capabilities for sustainable economic growth.
Mr. Tien Long Woon, pointed out that the partnership with MATRADE emphasises FedEx’s dedication in supporting the global ambitions of Malaysian SMEs. “Through this collaboration, we aim to accelerate the growth of Malaysian SMEs and contribute to the overall economic resilience of the region,” he stressed.
Woon also added that by combining MATRADE's export promotion resources and FedEx's industry-leading express delivery services, the partnership will provide comprehensive support to Malaysian exporters looking to grow their exports through cross-border e-Commerce transactions and establish a stronger global footprint. “FedEx looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with MATRADE that will not only benefit Malaysian SMEs but also contribute to strengthening trade ties between Malaysia and the world” he added.
The CEO of MATRADE, Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz reiterated that the MoU between MATRADE and FedEx is a timely initiative to bridge the gap between Malaysian companies and international markets. “This is especially so as MATRADE members can now utilise both the organisations’ global network, expertise, as well as services. In other words, Malaysian exporters, for example, can now benefit from not only MATRADE’s network of 49 global offices but also FedEx’s worldwide presence,” he said.
Datuk Mohd Mustafa also noted that the MOU with FedEx is a pivotal step towards equipping Malaysian SMEs with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in the global arena. Through FedEx differentiated solutions, international expertise and networks, local businesses can be provided with a significant competitive edge.
Both organisations aim to leverage advanced logistics solutions to streamline export procedures, reduce shipping lead times and ensure efficient distribution channels. This is in recognition of the continuous need to help SMEs penetrate new markets, improve business connections and speed up processes.
MIHAS, organised by MATRADE, opened its doors on 17th September 2024 and will conclude on 20th September 2024.
