MATRADE Elevates the Competitiveness of Sarawak MSMEs in Digital Marketing and Global Branding
KUCHING, 28 NOVEMBER 2024 (THURSDAY): Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) remains committed to elevate Sarawak’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in digital marketing and global branding through the agency’s signature Mid-tier Companies (MTCs) Benchmarking Programme here today.
This initiative serves as an interactive platform for knowledge sharing on the best practices in digital marketing and global branding from successful MTCs under the Mid-Tier Companies Development Programme (MTCDP) with targeted MSMEs.
Themed “Digital Marketing for Global Reach”, the Benchmarking Programme was held at the Sheraton Hotel Kuching has attracted over 50 MSMEs from various industries. The event aimed to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration among industry leaders towards enhancing Malaysia's position in digital marketing and global branding, ensuring resilience and inspiring growth through exports among the local MSMEs.
This strategic collaboration with Deloitte Consulting brought together key stakeholders including industry experts and representatives from leading companies across various sectors, to explore emerging trends, challenges, and best practices in digital marketing and global branding. Attendees gained valuable insights from renowned MTC exporters, engaged in interactive panel discussions, and network with peers to explore potential collaborations and business opportunities.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE, Mansor Shah Wahid stated, “MATRADE consistently prioritises export excellence by nurturing a dynamic export ecosystem through inclusive and holistic approaches, especially in the exporters development agenda. The strategic collaboration with our MTCDP Alumni reflects our ongoing dedication in supporting our Malaysian exporters to be globally competitive. This benchmarking programme serves not only as a platform for knowledge exchange, but also as a catalyst for cultivating strategic partnerships between established exporters and local MSMEs in enhancing their global presence, specifically in digital marketing and global branding”.

During the event, both MATRADE and its delivery partner, Deloitte Consulting shared valuable industry insights and led discussions on innovative approaches as well as strategies for effectively navigating the complexities of digital marketing and global branding. MATRADE moderated a fireside chat on “Branding and Digital Marketing Strategies to Scale Beyond Borders”, featuring two prominent MTCs from the MTCDP Alumni; Mr. Danny Tai, Chief Operating Officer of Pansar Berhad and Datin Hasnah Awang, Director of Gading Kencana Sdn. Bhd. The enriched discussion highlighted the MTCs’ experiences on empowering export strategies through digital marketing, and provided valuable insights on sustainable practices in emphasizing their brand presence in international markets.
Launched in 2014 as a high impact key initiative in the Malaysia Development Plan, MTCDP aims to accelerate the export growth of MTCs, positioning them as global leaders. Building on the success of the programme, the Mid-Tier Ramp Up Programme was introduced in 2016 to further propel MTCs' exports and enhance their competitiveness in global markets. To date, 348 MTCs have benefited from the programme.
MATRADE is committed to cultivating more export champions and supporting the government's efforts to rejuvenate the Malaysian economy as outlined in the MADANI Economy and New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, which involves fostering growth in new sectors while ensuring socio-economic inclusiveness and sustainability.
The MTCDP targets export-oriented MTCs with annual revenues ranging from RM50 million to RM500 million for manufacturing companies and RM20 million to RM500 million for service providers.
