Reference Amounts and Serving Sizes

Serving sizes must reflect the ReferenceAmount
Customarily Consumed (RACC) determined by
FDA’s review of consumer consumption data.
•
Reflects what consumers actually eat, not what
they should eat.
•
Multiple RACC values have been changed to
reflect new data.
•
Certain beverage RACCs were increased from
240 Ml to 360 Ml (such as sodas).
•
“All other candies”, RACC value decreased from
40 g to 30 g.
•
Ice cream RACC increased from 1/2 to 2/3 cup.
•
NewRACCcategory for “appetisers” established.
•
New RACC category for “after-dinner
confectionary”.
