KUALA LUMPUR, 6 JULY 2026 (MONDAY) – The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) is set to spearhead the coordinated participation of Malaysian companies at the upcoming International Healthcare Week (IHW) in Bangkok, Thailand, from 8 to 10 July 2026. Championing high-value healthcare breakthroughs, MATRADE will host a dedicated Malaysian Pavilion showcasing eight prominent local healthcare companies while concurrently partnering with global exhibition organiser Informa Markets to present the Malaysia Healthcare Day forum.

Located at Hall 5, Booth Number D38, the Malaysian Pavilion will feature airway management and respiratory equipment, with featured products including endotracheal tubes, prefilled humidifiers, inhaler spacers, and scope laryngoscopes. The showcase will also highlight laboratory diagnostics, stainer systems, blood collection tubes, and innovative consumables like external urinary catheters, specialised wound dressings, and reusable cooling pads. This is further complemented by branded off-patent pharmaceuticals and soy-bean-based health supplements.

The Malaysia Healthcare Day forum, on the other hand, will serve as the official regional curtain-raiser for International Healthcare Week 2027, which will be proudly hosted in Kuala Lumpur. As a key highlight of the Bangkok mission, the forum will bring together policy and regulatory experts, medical distributors, and corporate innovators to exchange knowledge and drive commercial partnerships. Crucially, the platform will signal Kuala Lumpur's readiness to welcome the global medical community as the host city for IHW 2027.

"Our participation in Bangkok is aimed at showcasing Malaysia’s capabilities in the medical and healthcare sector," said Mr Abu Bakar Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE. "The outstanding global trust in Malaysian medical device exports which reached RM34.54 billion proves that our local players are capable to deliver world-class efficacy. Bringing these eight local manufacturers together under one pavilion allows us to spotlight the technology and sophistication that delegates can look forward to experiencing firsthand when Malaysia hosts IHW in Kuala Lumpur next year."

This dual-pronged initiative is designed to anchor Malaysia’s presence not only within the ASEAN healthcare industry, but also globally. Malaysia's positioning at IHW 2026 is backed by phenomenal macroeconomic momentum in the life sciences sector. Malaysia has rapidly emerged as an indispensable cornerstone of global medical ecosystems, driven by manufacturing precision, strict regulatory compliance, and a strong push into digital health infrastructure.

In 2025, exports of medical device stood at RM34.54 billion, anchoring global supply chains for surgical instruments and advanced consumables. Pharmaceutical exports are also on a steady year-on-year rise, with exports recorded at RM3.66 billion in 2025, demonstrating an expansive and growing international footprint. Malaysia’s competitive advantage lies not only in exporting high-quality medical products, but also in providing world-class healthcare services. By leveraging internationally accredited facilities, a highly skilled workforce, and innovative technologies, Malaysia has recognised status as a global medical tourism powerhouse. Last year alone, its private healthcare sector attracted 1.84 million international patients, generating RM3.34 billion in revenue.
